One&Only Cape Town Hotel in Cape Town

The new interiors of the hotel highlighted the beauty of the local nature, the cultural heritage of South Africa and the rhythm of modern Cape Town

The One&Only Cape Town Hotel, located on the central waterfront of Cape Town with views of the port and the picturesque Table Mountain, is like an oasis of tranquility, standing in the middle of a dynamic city. During the large-scale renovation, 133 rooms and suites, the lobby area and the Vista Bar & Lounge bar were completely renovated here, improving the entire territory of the resort.

The updated design is inspired by the colors, textures and shapes of one of the most picturesque corners of the world. The various details of the interiors reflect the cultural heritage, mythology, as well as the natural treasures of Cape Town: the azure ocean, high mountains, pandemic plants that can be found only in these parts.

The design of the Vista Bar & Lounge is based on a local legend about the creation of a Table Mountain about Observers. By order of the hotel, the artist Stanislav Trzebinski created a sculpture of Observers towering over the bar and complementing the panoramic view of the mountain.

Natural materials and minerals were used for the decoration of the rooms, much attention was paid to the choice of textures. The asymmetrical headboards complement the curves of the couches and the geometry of the chairs, and handmade ceramics refer to the texture and colors of Table Mountain: golden yellows remind of the hot sun, rich greens remind of the riot of plants, blue convey the beauty of the ocean, and dark colors are inspired by local pine trees.

The patterns on the carpets and pillows mimic the local “forests” of Cape Town brown algae — one of the most complex ecosystems in the world, found in the ocean waters off the coast of the city.

The interiors of the suites are decorated with works by local artists: for example, for the dining areas of the suites, the artist Johanny Twala created graphic images of African mountains — Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and Table Mountain, and the artist Claude Chandler, inspired by the scales and panoramas of Table Mountain, created bright canvases decorating the lounge areas.

Thanks to the love of the hotel team for protea, the national flower of South Africa, and the local finbosh shrub, there are fresh flowers throughout the resort. And floral motifs are played out in the decor elements of rooms and public spaces.
