A few years ago, Anna and Niklas Edgren bought a house in a former church building in the Swedish town of Obuthorp and opened a restaurant with home cooking and a guest house here

In the center of the small Swedish town of Obutorp, located in the municipality of Kumla, Örebro county, there is an old church with bright red facades. This is a local attraction, for which tourists come here from all over Sweden.

The building was built in 1884 and indeed once served as a temple, but then it was turned into a residential building. And a few years ago it was bought by a married couple — Anna and Niklas Edgren. He is a chef who has dreamed of his restaurant business all his life, she is an interior designer who was eager to bring her wildest ideas to life.

This is how this unusual place appeared: a restaurant with home cooking Egastronom and a guest house where rooms are rented.

Nikas has worked in a restaurant all his life — both as a chef, and as a consultant, an inspiration, his place of work was the whole of Sweden. Anna tried many different professions, but decided on design. She is well versed in coloristics and loves to work with color, which is immediately noticeable as soon as you get into this house: the palette for the restaurant and private areas is very well chosen and harmoniously complemented with furniture and decorative items.

“We are sure that making this trip together is a great idea, and we constantly try to remind ourselves of this,” the owners of the house say. — We have two completely different professions that work well together. And the result is not long in coming.”

The house was not in the best condition and required repair. Anna has done a lot of work. Now each room has its own “highlight”, which is expressed in everything — from a selection of shades and furniture to accessories and joinery. There are rooms that are more playful in their mood, and more classic solutions. “We wanted high quality and class to be felt in everything here,” the owners say.

The heart of the house is the main dining room with a high painted ceiling and a cozy, homely atmosphere, this is the “diocese” of Niklas, where he prepares dishes for visitors and holds “meetings” of his culinary studio. The same area serves as a common living room: it has a comfortable corner with soft sofas and a seating area.

The owners of the house themselves live there on the ground floor, and the rooms on the second floor are rented out.

During the pandemic, when all the restaurants were closed, Anna and Niklas’ business was also in crisis. But the couple did not lose heart and found an unusual way out of the situation by opening a small shop on the site. It is housed in a hastily converted construction container with an area of 5 square meters. Here you can buy basic necessities, products from local suppliers, as well as order breakfast, lunch and dinner to take away.
