Soloma bath complex in the style of Wabi-sabi in Kazan

Soloma is the first adobe bathhouse in Tatarstan with a natural microclimate. This is a modern, eco-friendly project in which the most innovative solutions of the bath industry are complemented by a fashionable design in the style of Wabi-sabi, natural materials and delicious and understandable cuisine made from farm products

The felt lamps are the work of the artist Milana Khalilova. The ceramics on the table are the work of Marina Lozove. The furniture is made according to individual sketches in a local carpentry workshop.

The Soloma bath complex is a new recreation place in the village of Lesnaya Polyana near Kazan, opened by Timur and Katya Krylov. “We are a married couple. Timur has been engaged in professional vaping for more than 10 years, Katya is an expert in the restaurant industry, — the founders of the project tell. — Our main wish was to create a free and bright bath space with its own unique atmosphere and philosophy. We also wanted to use as many natural materials as possible, wood, ceramics, clay and so on.

Over the years of planning the complex, we have traveled a huge number of baths in Russia and Europe, looking for something unique, non-standard. We didn’t want to go down the beaten path and build another wooden structure where there is little light, and the tree eventually turns into a hotbed of mold. Therefore, the complex has a lot of panoramic windows in the floor, light ceramics, adjustable lighting and modern technologies that change the idea of going to the bath.”

So, for example, in a common steam room, steam is supplied using one of the buttons installed around the perimeter, and to pour ice water from a bucket, just press the touch button. In the individual steam room, the “second breath” system is activated — filtered and heated air from the forest is supplied to the face during the procedure. This allows you to relax even more and disconnect from all problems.

“Designer Luisa Alcova joined us already at the construction stage, and with absolute precision implemented all our crazy ideas in practice, adjusting them in accordance with the norms and requirements of architecture,” Timur and Katya continue. “She complemented our concept with her bright and absolutely unique proposals, which helped to link the entire space into a single whole.”

The area of the bath complex is more than 500 sq. m. meters. It is built using adobe technology with the use of panels made of pressed straw plastered with clay — an eco-friendly and technological natural material. It took 15 tons of clay and 30 tons of straw to build it! The uniqueness of such a bathhouse is the natural microclimate, high energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. Soloma is the only adobe complex in Tatarstan and the largest in Russia.

The closets in the changing rooms are made to order.

It has a height of two floors and consists of two ergonomic zones. The first is a guest space with a comfortable upholstered area, a fireplace and a large dining table, changing rooms, a shower and a massage room. The second is a spa area with two steam rooms (shared and individual), a hammam, showers, a font and a vat on the terrace. The ergonomics of the room is built so that the guest moves slowly through the program of the complex’s procedures and meets only convenience and comfort at every step.

The atmosphere has a minimum of furniture and decor, there is not a single random thing here, everything is thought out and carefully selected by the owners of the bath complex and the designer. Marina Lozove’s original ceramics and Milana Khalilova’s felt lamps in the guest room are complemented by simple wooden furniture made to order. But the most unusual object in the interior is the ceiling above the font in the spa area. It is assembled from 1000 pieces of lime bark!
