A small Moscow apartment went to the customers from their parents. “It is connected with the bright memories of the client’s mother. The couple did not want to get rid of it, despite the fact that they have their own large apartment, but they wanted to completely change the situation,” says the author of the project. The couple designed their home in the Art Deco aesthetic, which is close to her. However, this time preference was given to modern stylistics, light shades and minimalistic details.

The layout of an apartment in a typical panel house rarely meets the needs of a modern family. It can be upgraded, but not always. “In this case, it was impossible to make any useful changes to the layout. I just got rid of the kitchen door to combine its space with the hallway. It was necessary to come up with a new arrangement of furniture and visually adjust the proportions of the space due to finishes and color solutions,” Igor explains.

“The corridor is, first of all, a walk—through area, but due to the fact that the same wall covering is used there as in the living room, it is perceived as part of the living space. In addition, it serves as a ladies’ room — we have placed a console table for makeup there — and an art gallery with engravings of St. Petersburg.”

“The hallway, in turn, is maximally unloaded. The built—in storage module does not look bulky and heavy, but it easily accommodates all the necessary seasonal clothes and shoes,” says Igor.

“The living room was divided into two functional parts with the help of a partition-rack. Closer to the entrance, a lounge area was decorated with a comfortable sofa, inscribed in a niche with drawers. Closer to the window is the bedroom area with a large bed and a wardrobe. The separation is also supported by a lighting solution: a voluminous chandelier hangs in the living room, and ceiling lamps in the bedroom. A painting by Tatiana Brodach was placed above the bed, which fit perfectly into the interior, although it seemed to the owners too frank at first.”

The designer managed to place everything necessary on the tiny kitchen area. Light shades visually expanded the room, filling it with light, and yellow and pink accents added warmth and liveliness. We tried to use the space sparingly, so even a glass table and a transparent lamp seem to dissolve in the air.

“I designed many pieces of furniture here myself, which I am very proud of. The kitchen set and doors have become part of a serial collection called “Kami”, which means “paper” in Japanese. The inspiration for the creation of this series was the corrugated cardboard texture.”
