Start a wave: The Water Front Cafe by Freya Architects

With a table that looks like a marine inhabitant, and a wave hood

Bureau Freya Architects has designed the interior for The Water Front cafe with an Australian mood and breakfast from morning to evening. It was important to reflect the feeling of freshness, ocean, sand and surf in the project. To do this, the architects used sand shades and dark blue colors (in the hallway, bathroom and on the table), symbolizing the ocean. Even the ventilation pipe is deliberately curved and reflects the theme of the waves!

In the center of the cafe there is a large curved table, which, according to the architects, reminds of sea creatures and ocean waves.

The space is small, but it is designed so that the streams of guests are divided into those who take coffee to take away, and those who sit at tables. The arrangement of furniture is planned with the expectation that fresh pastries on a diagonal rack can be immediately seen from the street, and you can quickly go to a cafe for cupcakes and sandwiches without getting into the main space. A large company can sit at an island table, while due to its curved shape, an informal and chaotic seating arrangement is created, as if you are floating in the sea or ocean.

The concept of the establishment is very friendly for both people and animals. At the first meeting, the owners showed the architects dishes and presentations with colors and textures that they like, even sent a playlist. “We knew for sure that we wanted to create an unusual atmosphere in the cafe, reminiscent of Australia. There is an interesting nature and different creatures, it is a distant continent, and not everyone has been there. Therefore, the task was to do something that is nowhere else. So we came up with a central table — a creature from the seabed,” say the architects from Freya Architects.
