Customers and tasks

Duplexes today are called houses divided into two entrances for two families. The owner of this duplex Elena is a mature woman who is fond of fashion, astrology and esotericism, studies etiquette, loves traveling and meeting friends, does yoga and meditates. The house is designed for two people and a cat. To designer Ekaterina The hostess asked Proskurina to design an interior that would reflect her personality, to provide a large kitchen-living room-dining room, bedroom and office. 

Redevelopment

The reconstruction affected only the first floor. Here they organized a kitchen-dining room-living room, a small guest bathroom and a small laundry room, which was placed under the stairs.

The second floor is completely private. There is an office, a bedroom and a master bathroom. 

The developer rented a duplex with high ceilings. The second floor has a sloping ceiling, but even after the renovation it remained high from 2.4 to 4.7 meters.

Finishing

The finish was selected carefully. At the time of interior design, some materials were laid, but when the time came for implementation, they could not find much on sale and were looking for a replacement.

There is paint on the walls with accents in the form of frescoes. Frescoes decorated the walls behind the sofas in the living room and study, as well as in the dining area and in the bedroom behind the headboard. The floor in the kitchen was tiled using patchwork in the form of a “carpet”, and in the living room and living rooms with a parquet board.

The guest bathroom has partially painted walls, wet areas behind the toilet installation and above the sink are tiled.

In the master bathroom, three types of material were used: porcelain stoneware for wood on the floor, gray marble on the walls and rectangular pink tiles in the shower and behind the toilet installation. 

Furniture and storage systems

The kitchen and cabinet furniture were made to order in a carpentry workshop. Systems have been provided for storage in different zones. In the hallway there is a wardrobe for outerwear, shoes and bags. There is book storage under the stairs in the living room, but most of it is given over to the utility area.

The collection of books is also compiled on the shelves in the study, there is also a low cabinet. In the mistress’s bedroom there is a wardrobe for storing everyday things. 

The linear kitchen set is quite roomy. In addition to the necessary kitchen appliances, a three-circuit boiler is hidden behind the facades. 

Lighting

The common ceiling light in the kitchen-living room and hallway is solved by overhead spots, additional scenarios are a large chandelier over the dining table, a sconce over the sofa and a chandelier on the ceiling in the living room. Two suspensions were placed above the stairs, complementing their sconces. 

On the second floor, high ceilings made it possible to hang a chandelier even in the bathroom. There are spots in the office and a table lamp in the form of a monkey on the desktop. 

There are spots and bedside lamps in the bedroom: a table and suspensions in the form of arrows (according to the author, this is a reference to the mistress’s passion for esotericism and astrology), as well as a spectacular table lamp on the dressing table.

Decor

The hostess already had a collection of decor. For example, butterflies that have now “settled” on the wall in the staircase area. The author draws a parallel with the “flight” (in this zone the highest ceilings) because of this choice of placement. 

There were also paintings that the hostess placed in the interior together with the designer. “One of her favorite paintings is located on the stairs. The Peruvian artist’s “Sadness of Loss” was bought on a trip. The artist dedicated it to an elderly couple whose car was stolen. The picture coincided with Elena’s mood and personal experiences. She called it “The Loss of Sadness,” and turned it 180 degrees,” says the designer. 

The walls in the hallway and the kitchen-living room are also decorated with mirror panels. In addition, there is a place for green plants. “I gave the client a planter “Elena” with a tradescantia. Friends supported the anthropomorphic theme and presented a vase with a face. Samovars, an umbrella, a trough on the cabinet, painted teapots, gzhel, vintage dishes with mimosa are all from the personal collection of the hostess,” concludes Ekaterina.

The source of inspiration for creating this eclectic interior was the customer herself, an extraordinary, diverse person who loves travel and life in all its manifestations. I really wanted to create an interior that is comfortable not only from the side of human needs for sleep, food and rest, but also reflects her character of a very bright person. “Loss of sadness” (as the hostess called her painting) can be attributed to the entire style of the house. It is impossible to be sad here. As planned, we have a bright juicy eclectic Scandinavian minimalism interior with an atmosphere of colonial style. From the Scandinavian style there is patchwork, laconic smooth facades of furniture, wooden textures of golden and tinted dark brown oak. From the colonial style, the warm range is combined with massive furniture, a staircase fence, a wooden ceiling on the second floor, a huge number of tourist souvenirs of value to the hostess, tropical motifs in selected frescoes, gold fittings. Everything is bizarre here, and everything is combined with each other.
