The history of this apartment began with big changes. “Its owner, designer Anton Nesmelov, left his last job and was thinking where to move on,” say architects of the Archblack studio Anna Sysoeva and Tatiana Odintsova. — We started working on the project during this “buffer” period of his life. Already in the process, we realized how comfortable it was for us to work together, Anton joined the team, and there were three of us. Now 1.5 people live in the apartment — Anton, the designer of the Archblack studio, and his French bulldog Viva — she is just beautiful and loves to slide on the parquet from a run.”

Anton’s new apartment is located in a 1930s house. “It is always difficult to work with an old foundation, a lot of time and effort is spent on dismantling, and you never know what it will bring,” the architects say. — The space, a former communal apartment, looked quite sad — a lot of partitions, cabinets, old coverings and other garbage. But once in the apartment, Anton did not look at other options: even in that initial state, he felt at home here. We had seven solutions ready — to place all the zones on an area of 65 sq. m. m is not that simple. In the final version, we planned a cube in the center of the apartment, around which the whole life unfolds. Inside the cube there is a dressing room, and on the outside there is a built-in kitchen, it dissolves into its volume and becomes invisible. Anton often has guests, so the heart of the apartment has become a large table-an island made of marble, at which we gather for a glass of sparkling wine. This formula was fixed in a neon inscription on the wall — In prosecco we trust”.

“Almost all the walls in the project are white, we wanted to let in as much light as possible, make the interior mobile, changing, flexible. The dominant layout, the cube, was painted in a graphite shade, emphasizing the architecture of the space. In the bedroom, a gradient was used: from a gray ceiling to light walls. Otherwise, it is a mix of styles and eras with a retro bias. Many objects refer to the 1950s and 1970s. Considering that the interior was made at the height of the pandemic, it was difficult to find and buy something. Simple accessible items were used. For example, a coffee table was assembled from nine plaster balls from an art store and an old round table top, and upholstery for vintage chairs was searched for in markets in Dagestan. Vladimir Kagan’s iconic Serpentine sofa was bought on Avito with leather upholstery torn by cats and pulled into velvet. Anton had a sculpture made of mesh under the code name “Kolya”. He had to definitely move into a new apartment. There was not enough space for it, but we also solved this issue: the sculpture became a lamp in the hallway. We started doing the project as two designers and a customer, and ended up as three designers of the Archblack studio — and of course we are very proud of this.”
